How often do you recharge your cell phone? In this “I can’t do without my cell phone” world, probably a lot. These devices have in many ways positively changed our lives and while neither overwhelmingly good nor inherently evil â€" it’s how we use â€" or not use them â€" that counts. For example, Bible apps can help in our spiritual life, while messages from family and friends (and funny pics or videos) on social media warm the heart. No doubt this age of instant communication has enabled some wonderful things, but on the negative side technology can also very easily become an idol in our lives when we place it ahead of putting God first. For some that are constantly glued to their screens, this becomes the focus of their lives and with “knowledge increasing” (Daniel 12:4) it is a false promise of making us think that we are smarter and wiser than we really are. The point is that while using our devices is not wrong, we need to be serious about

Some people view their popularity these days with the number of Friends and Likes they have on Facebook. While it might be flattering to know a lot of people are following or “liking” your posts, there is no real heart connection between you and others in this virtual world. But there is one “LIKE” from one “Follower” of you that is worth more than ten million Likes!! Today’s scripture describes how your Heavenly Father has his eye on you every second. Not only are you never far from his thoughts, but his thoughts about and towards you are so numerous that if you were able to count them, each one exceeds all the grains of sand in the world. You see, God cares more for you than anyone!! This is the character of our Heavenly Father towards each one of us! No matter who we are, where we are, what country we are in , how much money or success we have or don’t have, the color of our skin, or our ethnic background â€" God cares about YOU and knows all about you. When I was three years old, my mother took me to a concert at the High School Gymnasium in our small Mississippi town on a hot, sultry southern night where I saw my first professional performance with a singing star named Hildegard. Her persona and projection mesmerized me, and from that moment on I knew I was destined to perform someday and also be a “STAR” on stage as well. At seventeen my dream came true performing in stage shows in Las Vegas then shortly after on major nationally televised variety shows in Los Angeles on NBC, CBS and ABC. Standing next to and working with the biggest international stars at first was enthralling, but after a dozen years as a backup singer my heart was left empty, frustrated and neglected. I wanted to be recognized as “THE STAR,” not just a back-up singer, so I left show business and returned back to my roots in the south. When we turn our attention away from ourselves and to God, it’s amazing how life can and WILL cha

When I was five years old there was a very steep rocky cliff near my house. One day I sat on the edge of this precipice wondering how far I could scoot off the edge, so I moved down a few inches and all was fine. So I slid down a little further and it seemed easy to get back up if I wanted to. So far so good. I slid down a LITTLE MORE... but then the rocks under my behind slowly started to be a little slippery! Although I carefully tried to scoot back up, each time I did I slid a few inches more until finally I was going down the slope at a steady - then quick rate until it was as slick as a slide in the playground! Fortunately I ended up at the bottom, crying hysterically, but safely winding up in an old man’s backyard terrified at what I had done, and wondering how I could get back up to the top. The kindly elder gentleman managed to pry my name out of me between my tears, looked up our home phone number in the white pages (remember those?!?)

After miserably failing at the violin in the 5th grade, I found my talent on the trumpet the following year. Since I was improving so rapidly, the band director advised my parents that I needed a better instrument than the battered horn that I was playing on provided by the school. A local music store delivered a brand new horn in a smartly trimmed leather case and inside - lined in deep purple velvet - was a rich golden lacquer colored trumpet with intricate engraving on the bell. It was far more substantial than my beat-up school horn and was so stunningly beautiful that I could not imagine wanting anything more than that trumpet in my entire life! My parents wisely asked our neighbor, who was a local pro trumpet player, to check it out and he took it to a gig that night so he and the guys could play it. While desperately trying to fall asleep I prayed every possible prayer I could think of, pleading with God to please, Please , PLEASE have them s

I walked by a shop recently that featured a window display of famous books. Each was covered in a brown-paper wrapper with a short comment about it, however it was the synopsis written on the Bible that was disturbing, simply saying “Religious Viewpoint” and “Violence.” This is an increasingly popular view today in categorizing the bible (often written with a small 'b') as a book from a dark, past time in human history that has no place in this modern, enlightened age. If this is your way of thinking, you’d be well advised to take another look because actually the exact opposite truth of the Bible is that this is the ultimate amazing life-saving story to redeem the world and everyone in it from Rebellion to Restoration with God. Unlike the other books in this window, this - The Greatest Of All Books - tells a story far deeper and more important than any other. Not only is it a mistake to dismiss it as the false views of ages past, it is even a b
